Please see the following attachments for the brief overview we will be doing in class leading up to the FSA writing. Students will not be asked to complete both practice essays! Instead, we will be analyzing the prompts and looking for evidence in the texts as a class. However, if you wanted your student to complete the essays for further practice and discussion at home, they are excellent examples of the types of prompts and texts they may see on the FSA writing.
Due to FSA Practice, the time line for this is a little up in the air right now. Tentatively our test review will be on Monday (A) and Tuesday (B) with the test during our next class meeting.
In this unit, we will be reading the dramatic work "Sorry, Wrong Number" by Lucille Fletcher. We will be discussing the elements of drama, plot structure, and how dialogue can reveal character and move the plot. We will then view a filmed production of the play and compare and contrast the act of reading versus viewing. Our language focus will be creating complex sentences using adverb clauses and the students will be creating an Adverb Clause Storybook in class. In their Close Reader, they should be working on "Comparing Versions of 'A Christmas Carol'" on pgs. 35-42 The text of the chapter can be found here. I have attached the notes and activities for the first day, as well as the test study guide and SMART targets for this unit.
